Pimping a new ad class (seriously, it's good stuff)

Do you understand why Facebook opened to the masses? Do you really understand what all the Tweeting is about on Twitter? Still get your news just from the traditional sources?

Now more than ever, students leaving college will be asked to know not just how to use forms of social media, but also how to use them effectively to promote companies, products, brands etc. JOUR 4800 Advertising and Social Media hopes to help you determine the effective uses for advertisers and public relations practitioners of a variety of networking sites ranging from Facebook (there really is more to it than adding friends and posting party pictures) to Second Life (want to be a rock star? give it a try in Second Life). We'll be mixing hands-on projects with theoretical backgrounds to give you a chance to discover what social media can do for businesses.

The course will substitute for a professional topics course in the advertising and public relations curriculum. So come on...spend a semester with Dr. T (Farwell) and Social Media.

(or if you did paid internships before your senior year and don't want to do another one for credit, it can sub for your internship although you still need to talk to your adviser and get official permission.)

The class is listed under Journalism 4800 Seminar: Advertising and Social Media.
