Just wanted to announce 2 of our speakers lined up for this semester!

On October 13th, Danna Grigson and Stephanie Ferguson from The Buntin Group's Media department and James Whitaker, Senior Account Executive with Clear Channel, will discuss Ad2 and what it's like to work in Media.

On October 26th, come hang out and bowl with Ad Club!

On November 10th, Bruce Stanley, the Creative Director for redpepper, will be speaking. More info closer to the date.

On November 24th, Hannah Paramore, President of ParamoreRedd, will be speaking. More info on that later as well.

de la Blue - I spoke with Alexander Chevy and we have the green light. I'm still waiting on the budget! Start thinking about what your group wants to do based on the research provided for you in your folder. If you can stay for a few minutes after the next meeting, we'll discuss strategy.

9/15 - First Meeting Notes

Thanks to everyone who came to the first ad club meeting! For a rainy day, we had a great turn out! We hope you learned more about what ad club is up to this semester, and we'd love to hear feedback from you abo

ut the meeting. Email any questions or comments to mtadclub@gmail.com or comment on this blog! :)

Here are some highlights from tonight's meeting:

Some of you may know Ad Club as a few speakers a year, pretty isolated from each other, or something you do for extra credit. We're aiming to change that this year. Our wonderful former presidents got our club organized, so this semester's officers decided the next step was to give ad club members what they want. We took a survey over the summer and have used your answers to determine what this semester would look like.

You said you wanted more social interaction. We spent the first 10 minutes of the meeting tonight eating pizza and talking. We took another 5 minutes break midway through the meeting and we challenged everyone to find out more about someone they didn't know very well. We were incredibly proud to look around the room and see groups of people interacting and

building their advertising network. Networking will be emphasized this semester! Our main social event will take place on Monday, October 26th. We invite you all to join us for some bowling that night! Details will be provided closer to the event.

You said you wanted a meeting that focused on resumes. On September 30th, Nancy Stubblefield will speak on resumes,

interviews, and Linked In. Someone asked me what Linked In was tonight. Oh dear students of advertising, if you don't know, you will surely find out! Here's a hint: 80% of employers use Linked In the hiring process. One great thing about this resume workshop is that it's happening a week before the MTSU Career Fair. Even if you think you know everything there is to know about resumes, another set of eyes and a brush up course never hurt anyone, especially if you're attending the career fair.

You said you still wanted speakers. That's happening as well. I'm still getting all that information together, but we will definitely feature 3 speakers this semester. Dr. Applegate will give extra credit for attending these meetings.

You said you wanted to build your portfolio and have something tangible to show your talent. Here's where de la Blue comes in.

de la Blue is the student agency part of Ad Club. We view de la Blue as level 2. It involves a little more effort and commitment, but it also lets you take full advantage of what Ad Club has to offer.

de la Blue features 5 teams: Media, Social Media, Copywriting, Art Direction, and Research. Each team will have 3 to 5 members. We're keeping the teams larger in order to spread out the work. We understand that you have work, school, and other activities, so we're trying to keep time commitments realistic.

Our probable client will be Alexander Chevrolet. We say probable because our client contact is currently in Hawaii. We still need a little information from him which we'll get next week. We still handed out folders for each team featuring information about Alexander Chevy, a campaign schedule, contact information, and a client contract stating you understand the client reserves the right to use your work and that you will act in a way that positively represents MTSU while working on the campaign.

Teams have been formed and the following positions are still available:

3 copywriters

3 researchers

If you're interested in participating in de la Blue, please email mtadclub@gmail.com with the position you prefer so that we can get you a folder and keep you on our contact list.

So how do you join Ad Club?

Email mtadclub@gmail.com and request a membership form. Dues are $10/semester and need to be given to John Ande Hixson by October 13th. You must pay dues by that date to participate in de la Blue.
